HIV Fear: Closeted Gay Man with Two Partners Seeks Advice

Dear Noy Kulas,

One of the biggest issues in society today is HIV, and it is often transmitted from male to male. That is why I am afraid of getting infected. I am a closeted gay man, but I have two male partners. Please hide my name as Dams.

My first partner is Jess. We have been together for three years. I cannot say he is after my money because sometimes he pays for our dates. My other partner is also gay. Let me call him Pan. We have been in a secret relationship for over a year now.

Last week, a gay coworker of mine discovered that he has HIV. He got the disease from his partner, who is also gay. Now I am scared that I might get infected by either of my two partners. I suspect that both of them may have other partners. What should I do?

Noy Kulas' Advice

First of all, do not give in to mere suspicion. Seek the truth. HIV cannot be seen through appearance or feeling. The best thing to do is to have an honest and sincere conversation with your partners about their sexual history and whether they have other partners besides you. Get an HIV test and encourage them to get tested as well. This is the only way to know the true state of your health. From now on, always use methods to prevent transmission. Also, seek advice from health professionals. If you are not sure about either of them, avoid intimate moments for now. It is better to be cautious. Pray for God's wisdom in your next decisions. Fear can be overcome when replaced by truth and good action.
