A father is behind bars after being caught stealing canned goods and personal care items from a grocery store in Barangay Kalubihan, Cebu City, on Monday morning, May 18, 2026. The suspect, identified as Janny, 29, unemployed and a resident of Barangay Capitol Site, claimed he was driven by desperation to provide for his five-month-old child.
Arrest and Recovery
According to police investigation, security guards at the establishment immediately apprehended Janny after they observed him placing items into his sling bag and attempting to leave without paying. Recovered from the suspect were four cans of Spam Luncheon Meat, each valued at P228, and one Axe Ice Chill Frozen Mint Lemon Scent deodorant worth P286.40. The total value of the stolen goods amounted to P1,198.40.
Suspect's Confession
Janny admitted to the crime, stating that he was forced to steal because he had no money to buy milk and other necessities for his infant. He is now detained at the Carbon Police Station detention cell, awaiting further legal proceedings.
