A Tribute to Mothers: Remembering My Mother on Mother's Day
Remembering My Mother on Mother's Day

Mother's Day in the Philippines began as an American tradition in 1914 and reached the country in the early 1900s. In 1988, it was officially declared a holiday under Proclamation No. 266.

I no longer have my mother. She passed away in 2018, two days after my birthday. But I will never forget her face, voice, mannerisms, and teachings until now. Even in bad times, my mother was very inspiring.

I remember during Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. While we were being battered by rain and strong winds, she called me to say that the humba and pochero she cooked were already canned. It happened that November 8, the day of the typhoon, was her birthday.

That was my mother, always looking at the positive things even in the midst of challenges and problems. Since we were not rich, she also taught me to save and always work hard. She also helped me develop my talents to become my investment for the future.

How about you? Is your mother still alive? If she is, love her very much, kiss and hug her often because you are very lucky to still have a mother. If you live in a different house, visit her always and show her how precious she is to you.

Every day, I miss my mother since she passed away. Life is truly different when you have a mother who loves, defends, and understands you in every moment. She sometimes appears in my dreams, but it would be much better if she were still alive with me.

So today, let us thank our mothers for the love and life they have given us. Because without them, we would not have been born into this world.
