An official from the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has highlighted alternative methods for participating in the upcoming Trillion Peso March III, allowing individuals to engage without needing to be physically present at the event venue. This announcement comes as the march is scheduled to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the historic EDSA People Power Revolution on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.
Diverse Participation Methods Encouraged
In a recent phone interview, Bishop Gerardo Alminaza, who serves as the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Social Action, Justice and Peace, outlined a variety of ways for people to take part. He suggested that participation could include liturgical prayers, the ringing of church bells, concerts, film screenings, and active engagement in social media discussions. Additionally, other options such as online forums, processions, and rallies held in various locations across the country were mentioned as viable alternatives.
"I trust we shall have significant and powerful expressions of demands in various ways," Alminaza stated, emphasizing the flexibility and inclusivity of these approaches.
Focus on the Spirit of EDSA
Bishop Alminaza stressed the importance of supporting the commemoration of the 1986 revolution, regardless of one's physical location. He pointed out that the key aspect is the ongoing effort to recapture the true spirit and lessons of the EDSA Revolution and to effectively communicate and appropriate these values to younger generations.
"Critical is the ongoing recapturing of the true spirit and lessons of EDSA, and communicating and appropriating these to the younger generations," he explained, underscoring the educational and moral dimensions of the event.
Success Beyond Attendance Numbers
The prelate also clarified that he does not view a large attendance at the third edition of the Trillion Peso March as the sole measure of its success. Expressing optimism, he noted that numerical turnout is not the primary concern for him.
"I remain optimistic but (numbers) are not important to me," Alminaza said, shifting the focus towards the qualitative impact and meaningful expressions of the march.
Event Details and Purpose
Organized by civil society groups and religious organizations, the Trillion Peso March III is set to take place on Wednesday, with activities planned at various sites near EDSA. The main venue will be the People Power Monument. The march aims to call for justice amid ongoing controversies related to flood control projects, linking the event to broader social and political issues.
This initiative seeks to honor the legacy of the EDSA Revolution while addressing contemporary concerns, encouraging widespread participation through both physical and virtual means to foster a collective sense of advocacy and remembrance.
