Cordova Teens Apologize for Viral Street Racing Stunt, Face LTO Sanctions
Four teenagers involved in a viral video depicting illegal street racing and a perilous "Superman" stunt have publicly apologized following a meeting with Cordova Mayor Cesar "Didoy" Suan at his office. The incident, which occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, prompted the mayor to summon the youths, along with their parents and the motorcycle owners, to address what he described as a serious issue rather than a minor violation.
Details of the Incident and Meeting
The crackdown was initiated after a video circulated online showing the four riders, all residents of Cordova aged between 15 and 18, performing high-speed stunts without helmets along Centennial Avenue. This area is designated as a "discipline zone" in Cordova, making their actions particularly egregious as they endangered public safety. In a video posted on Cordova's official Facebook page, parents or guardians admitted that some minors had ridden motorcycles without their knowledge. One parent confessed to allowing a minor to drive a motorcycle to school despite lacking a license, while others revealed that teenagers had sneaked out of their homes to ride their parents' motorcycles despite repeated warnings.
During the meeting with Mayor Suan, the parents asked for forgiveness from the public and pledged to keep motorcycle keys away from their teenage children. The four teenagers, for their part, vowed not to repeat the stunts and acknowledged the seriousness of their actions. Suan emphasized that repeat offenders would no longer simply be summoned to the Mayor's Office but would instead face appropriate penalties under Land Transportation Office (LTO) regulations.
Mayor's Warning and Enforcement Measures
Mayor Suan issued a stern warning to the community, stating in Cebuano, "People of Cordova, let this serve as a lesson to all of us. I just want to make this clear: for those reckless drivers who speed, whether they are from Cordova or not, if you drive recklessly within my jurisdiction, within the Municipality of Cordova, this will be the last time you will face the Mayor's Office to ask for forgiveness and make a public apology." To bolster enforcement, he announced an increase in checkpoints along major roads in Cordova to apprehend speeding motorists. He reiterated that driving without a license is strictly prohibited, with violators liable under both LTO rules and local ordinances.
Potential Violations and Ongoing Actions
Authorities indicated that the youths may face several sanctions, including driving without a license, operating an unregistered motorcycle, failing to present the vehicle's official receipt and certificate of registration, and reckless driving. Suan explained, "What they did is a violation of Section 48 on reckless driving, and there is a possibility that they may no longer be qualified to obtain a driver's license under Republic Act 4136." As of this writing, the Municipality of Cordova is awaiting the result of a show cause order issued by LTO 7 to hear the youths' side. Suan assured that the local government unit would closely coordinate with the agency and intensify the enforcement of traffic regulations, including imposing stricter penalties on violators.
In addition to these measures, Suan banned the modification of motorcycle mufflers within Cordova, in line with LTO 7 directives, and urged owners to restore their motorcycles to their original condition. He also emphasized that speed limits will be strictly enforced on highways and barangay roads to reduce accidents, underscoring the community's commitment to public safety and regulatory compliance.
