Newly elected Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has assured that the Senate will strictly follow the Constitution in handling the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. This comes after the order to transmit the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.
According to Cayetano, once the Articles of Impeachment are received, the Senate will first review the rules and immediately convene to properly begin the process. He emphasized that they will adhere to the Supreme Court's interpretation and the requirement for an immediate hearing, or "forthwith." In fact, discussions on the rules are already underway with the minority bloc.
The Senate President stated that he does not want any delays in the process.
