DepEd Official Killed in Gun Attack in Zamboanga Sibugay

A Department of Education (DepEd) official was fatally shot by two motorcycle-riding assailants in Zamboanga Sibugay province, police reported on Friday, May 1, 2026.

Victim Identified

The Zamboanga Sibugay Police Provincial Office identified the victim as Rey Dalaota Camaingking, 45, a district supervisor of DepEd in Alicia town. According to police, Camaingking was shot dead around 7:20 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, in Sitio Guicam, Dawa-Dawa village, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Details of the Attack

Initial investigation revealed that while Camaingking was walking at the Guicam Port, two unidentified individuals suddenly approached and shot him in the head using a caliber .45 pistol. The suspects then fled on board a motorcycle toward the nearby area of Kawayan immediately after the crime.

Police Response

The police in Alicia have launched a manhunt and coordinated with other police units in Zamboanga Sibugay to assist in arresting the suspects. As of now, the police in Alicia town have yet to establish the motive behind the incident.

The killing has shocked the local community and raised concerns about the safety of public officials in the region. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation.
