Iloilo City Police Mobilize 450 Officers for Enhanced Holy Week Security Operations

The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) is launching a comprehensive security deployment of 450 personnel across Iloilo City in preparation for Holy Week 2026. This initiative, part of the Philippine National Police's Ligtas Sumvac 2026 program, aims to ensure public safety from March 29 to May 31, 2026, during the anticipated surge of travelers, tourists, and churchgoers for Semana Santa observances.

Strategic Deployment and Key Security Measures

Police Colonel Wilbert Parilla, the officer-in-charge of ICPO, detailed that the deployment includes a mix of uniformed personnel, covert units, and specialized operational teams. These forces will be strategically positioned to secure critical areas throughout the city. "Your ICPO is fully prepared to prioritize your safety and security," Parilla emphasized. "We urge the public to stay vigilant and cooperate with authorities as we collaborate to uphold peace, order, and safety in Iloilo City."

Under the supervision of the Police Regional Office in Western Visayas (PRO 6), led by Police Brigadier General Josefino Ligan, these measures are integrated into a nationwide operation for the summer vacation period. Authorities have highlighted the necessity for heightened preparedness due to increased public movement in tourist hotspots, transportation hubs, and places of worship.

Coordinated Efforts and Public Assistance Initiatives

In a coordinated effort with the Iloilo City Transportation and Traffic Management Unit (ICTTMU), the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and the Land Transportation Office in Western Visayas (LTO 6), ICPO will station road safety personnel along major thoroughfares. Additionally, inspections will be conducted at bus terminals to guarantee safe travel for all commuters.

Police presence will be intensified through enhanced mobile patrol operations and maximum visibility in key locations, including transport terminals and other public spaces. This proactive approach is designed to deter criminal activities and ensure swift police response when incidents occur.

To further support the community, Police Assistance Desks will be established in churches, seaports, bus terminals, and other strategic points. These desks will provide assistance, disseminate information, and address public concerns promptly.

Public Vigilance and Emergency Contact Information

ICPO has called on residents and visitors to remain alert, secure their personal belongings, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or officer. For emergencies, the public can contact hotline 911 or reach ICPO directly at 0908-377-0194 or 335-0299.

The Ligtas Sumvac 2026 initiative underscores the Philippine National Police's ongoing commitment to safeguarding the public during the summer season and Holy Week. It reinforces efforts to maintain peace and order across communities, ensuring a secure environment for religious traditions and holiday enjoyment without disruption.
