Major Drug Bust in Mindanao: P1.7 Million Worth of Shabu Seized in Coordinated Police Operations

In a significant blow to illegal drug activities in the southern Philippines, law enforcement authorities have successfully arrested two high-value individuals and confiscated approximately P1.7 million worth of shabu in two separate anti-drug operations conducted in Sulu and Zamboanga City. The police confirmed these developments on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, underscoring the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

Details of the Arrests and Seizures

According to Police Brigadier General Edwin Quilates, director of the Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula, both suspects are aged 34 and have been classified as high-value individuals (HVIs), indicating their significant roles in the drug trade. The identities of the suspects have not been disclosed to the public as investigations continue.

The first operation took place in Timbangan village, Indanan, Sulu, around 8 p.m. on Monday, February 2. A joint team comprising policemen and troops from the 100th Infantry Battalion conducted a buy-bust that led to the arrest of a suspect from Kahawa village, Talipao, Sulu. Authorities seized 100 grams of shabu with an estimated street value of P680,000 from this individual.

In a separate incident, the second suspect was apprehended in Zone 5, Tulungatung village, Zamboanga City, at 12:58 a.m. on Sunday, February 1. This operation resulted in the confiscation of 150 grams of shabu valued at P1,020,000. The suspect is a resident of Recodo village, Zamboanga City.

Coordinated Efforts and Law Enforcement Collaboration

The anti-drug operation in Zamboanga City was spearheaded by the personnel of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit, in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. Additional support was provided by other police units and personnel from the Naval Intelligence Security Group-Western Mindanao, showcasing a multi-agency approach to tackling drug-related crimes.
