A wedding scheduled for next month may not push through after the 20-year-old groom-to-be was arrested for allegedly stabbing his elder brother at around 9:00 PM on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Sitio Rion 2, Barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
The suspect, identified only as alias Niko, is a habal-habal driver and resident of the area. He is currently under the custody of the Mabolo Police Station.
Meanwhile, his 36-year-old brother, alias Epoy, also a habal-habal driver, is in the hospital after sustaining a stab wound in the abdomen. He required surgery.
According to initial investigation, the two brothers had an argument, and the suspect suddenly stabbed the victim using a 12-inch kitchen knife.
In his statement, the suspect claimed that his brother threw a stone at him first, forcing him to defend himself. He said the tension arose from long-standing conflicts and accusations among him, his brother, and the latter's live-in partner.
He insisted that he did not intend to stab his brother and that he was just carried away by his emotions.
