Jay Sonza Arraignment Postponed by Pasay Court

The arraignment of former TV host Jay Sonza was postponed by the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 118 on Monday, May 4. The case is related to his alleged dissemination of false information concerning the health of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Sonza's lawyer, Atty. Mark Tolentino, explained that the court has given the Department of Justice (DOJ) 10 days to comment on their motion to dismiss the case for lack of jurisdiction. The lawyer argued that the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which is under the DOJ, should not have filed the complaint; instead, the President himself should have done so.

Meanwhile, Sonza's camp has decided not to pursue a request for temporary release through recognizance. Instead, they will post a bail bond of PHP 10,000. As a result, Sonza is expected to be temporarily released later today.

If the DOJ fails to submit a comment within the 10-day period, the case will be submitted for resolution. The case will be dismissed if the court grants Sonza's motion.
