Veronica 'Kitty' Duterte, daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, has filed a new motion before the Supreme Court regarding pending petitions concerning her father's situation. Through her lawyer, Atty. Salvador 'Paolo' Panelo Jr., Kitty Duterte specifically filed a 'Second Motion to Resolve' on behalf of the former president. The petition aims to urge the Supreme Court to act on the 'consolidated habeas corpus petitions' filed by their camp related to the arrest and transfer of former President Duterte to The Hague, Netherlands.
Fourteen Months of Inaction
In the motion, Kitty emphasized that fourteen months have passed without any substantive action from the Court. She noted that the original 'Writ of Habeas Corpus' was filed on March 12, 2025, over fourteen months ago. The second motion includes a request for the Court to resolve the pending petitions immediately, declaring the arrest, detention, and surrender of former President Duterte to the International Criminal Court as illegal and unconstitutional.
Demands for Action
Kitty also demands that the Supreme Court order the respondent officials in the petition to take immediate steps to bring the former President back to the Philippines. Atty. Salvador 'Paolo' Panelo Jr. stated that the delay has already led to a 'constitutional crisis' that should not be ignored.
