Mother Arrests Son for Attempted Parricide in Cebu

A 71-year-old mother in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, took decisive action by arresting her own son after he allegedly threatened to kill her inside their home in Banawa on the morning of Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Suspect Identified and Arrested

The Guadalupe Police Station identified the suspect only by the alias Lolong, a 50-year-old unemployed man. According to police investigation, the mother sought help from authorities when her son was carrying a weapon and reportedly threatened to kill her.

Police responded quickly and apprehended Lolong, who was reportedly drunk at the time, having just come from a feast (pamista).

Suspect's Explanation

When questioned, Lolong explained that he became angry at his mother because she suddenly turned on the light as he was about to sleep, startling him as it was very bright. He argued that he had no intention of killing his mother, as he still loves and respects her.

The suspect added that because his sleep was disturbed, he merely sharpened his knife to prepare for gathering wood, not to stab and kill his mother.

Legal Consequences

However, the mother panicked upon seeing her son carrying a knife and immediately called for help, leading to the suspect's arrest. Lolong now faces a possible charge of Attempted Parricide.
