Motorcycle rider dies in ambulance crash in Argao

A 29-year-old man died while the motorcycle driver was injured after they were hit by an ambulance that lost control on the National Highway in Barangay Langtad, Argao town, on Thursday morning, April 30, 2026.

The fatality was identified as Jovee Emia Lomocso, while the motorcycle driver, who suffered a fractured shoulder, was Karl Catubig. Both were residents of Samboan town.

The ambulance involved in the accident was driven by Melchor Bancal Jr., 55, a resident of Barangay Daanlungsod, Oslob, Cebu.

According to the investigation of the Argao Police, the motorcycle was traveling southbound while the ambulance was heading northbound. Upon reaching a curved section of the road, the ambulance, running at an estimated speed of 70 kilometers per hour (kph), reportedly lost control.

Due to the high speed, the ambulance crossed into the opposite lane and directly hit the oncoming motorcycle. The force of the impact threw the motorcycle driver and his passenger off the vehicle.

Lomocso was declared dead on arrival at Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital, while Catubig continues to receive medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the ambulance, which had nine passengers, nearly fell into a fishpond but was safely rescued and transferred to Talisay City District Hospital.

The ambulance driver, Bancal Jr., also sustained injuries and was immediately taken to a hospital before being detained at the Argao Police Station.

The driver is expected to face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, Physical Injuries, and Damage to Property.
