National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Melvin Matibag stated that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa allegedly pushed two female NBI agents who were serving the International Criminal Court (ICC) warrant of arrest before he fled. According to Matibag, no wrestling or punching occurred against dela Rosa, contrary to his earlier statement. He said the senator only suffered a finger injury after tripping while running up the stairs.
NBI Director Details Incident
Matibag explained that when dela Rosa learned that the warrant was about to be served, he quickly pushed the two agents and ran. Meanwhile, dela Rosa has not yet issued a new statement regarding the NBI’s allegations. However, the senator later admitted that he sustained the wound after tripping.
ICC Warrant and Senate Coordination
According to the NBI, they received the ICC warrant on Monday morning and immediately coordinated with the Senate, which was then under the leadership of former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III. The agency also had intelligence information that dela Rosa would attend the Senate session that day, prompting them to deploy approximately 40 NBI personnel inside and outside the building for the operation.
