Lapu-Lapu City May End 4-Day Workweek, Implements Emergency Measures
Lapu-Lapu City May End 4-Day Workweek, Emergency Plans

The Lapu-Lapu City Government is currently reviewing the possible termination of the four-day compressed workweek arrangement as officials intensify emergency response measures amid ongoing energy and economic challenges in the region.

Mayor Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” Chan announced this during the Crisis Management Team meeting on Monday, May 18, 2026. She stated that the City Government is expected to make an official announcement in June regarding the status of the compressed workweek.

On April 13, the compressed workweek was implemented through Executive Order 2026-23-A as part of the City Government’s efforts to address the impact of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The order covered certain government offices, while other frontline offices including health, traffic, and environment will continue regular working hours from Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Among the other measures discussed during the meeting were strengthening market price monitoring to ensure that the recent rollback in diesel prices also leads to a reduction in retail prices of basic commodities.

Also included is the implementation of financial assistance and rice subsidies for tourism workers, delivery riders, habal-habal drivers, fishermen, vendors, and public utility vehicle drivers affected by the increase in fuel prices and cost of living.

Chan also discussed the continued implementation of the P20 rice program, which has already benefited thousands of residents through direct consumer sales and barangay caravan distributions.
