In a powerful one-day crackdown, police forces across Central Visayas apprehended 36 individuals linked to illegal drugs and seized an estimated P4.2 million worth of suspected shabu. The synchronized operations took place on December 26, 2025, demonstrating law enforcement's intensified campaign during the holiday period.
Massive Haul in Region-Wide Sting
The Police Regional Office (PRO)-7, in close coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, launched simultaneous anti-illegal drug operations across the region. Authorities believe drug personalities often attempt to increase their activities during the holidays, expecting a lull in police operations. This major strike proves otherwise.
The most significant seizure occurred in Mandaue City. At around 8:47 PM in Sitio Pilit, Barangay Cabancalan, operatives from the City Intelligence Unit and City Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust operation. They arrested a man identified as a high-value individual and confiscated 150 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P1,020,000.
Relentless Campaign Against Holiday Drug Trade
Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan, the chief of PRO-7, issued a stern warning to those involved in the drug trade. He emphasized that the police will not tolerate any attempt to poison communities, especially during celebrations.
"These drug personalities take advantage of the holiday season, thinking that law enforcement is relaxed. Let this serve as a clear warning: We will not allow illegal drugs to poison our communities at any time of the year. Our operations will remain relentless, strategic, and uncompromising," Maranan stated.
All 36 arrested individuals are currently detained in police custodial facilities. Appropriate cases for violations of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are being prepared against them. The confiscated evidence has been submitted to the PNP Forensic Unit for chemical analysis.
Public Cooperation is Key
BGen. Maranan also called on the public to continue supporting the police campaign against illegal drugs. He encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activities in their localities to help ensure peaceful and crime-free communities. The police chief assured the public that their cooperation is vital and that informants will be protected.
This large-scale operation underscores the PRO-7's commitment to maintaining peace and order, with a specific focus on preventing the proliferation of illegal drugs during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
