BACOLOD. A significant leadership change is underway at the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), as confirmed by Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya. Colonel Joeresty Coronica, the current BCPO director, will be succeeded by Colonel Eugene Rebadomia in a formal turnover ceremony scheduled for Monday, February 9, 2026.

Official Confirmation and Ceremony Details

Mayor Gasataya publicly announced the transition, noting that the turnover event will take place at 3 p.m. at the BCPO headquarters located in Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod. This ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the city's law enforcement leadership, ensuring a smooth handover of responsibilities between the outgoing and incoming directors.

Selection Process and Mayor's Recommendation

The mayor revealed that he received a list of five candidates from the Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) for the position of BCPO director. After careful consideration, Gasataya recommended Colonel Eugene Rebadomia for the role. Rebadomia currently serves as the head of the PRO-NIR Operations Office and has accumulated extensive experience through various positions outside Bacolod City prior to this appointment.

Advantages of the New Director

Gasataya emphasized that Rebadomia's local roots provide a distinct advantage. "He is from Bacolod City and he knows the terrain, which it's his advantage among the nominees," the mayor stated. This familiarity with the city's landscape and community dynamics is expected to enhance his effectiveness in leading the police force. The mayor expressed his desire for Rebadomia to continue the initiatives and progress established by the outgoing director, Colonel Coronica, who also hails from Bacolod City.

Outgoing Director's Career Move

Colonel Joeresty Coronica, who is up for promotion, shared insights into his tenure. He served as police director of the Iloilo City Police Office for one year, five months, and 27 days, followed by another one year and six months at the BCPO. "It's almost three years of being a city director, so I need to transfer to other posts for a career development," Coronica explained. He will be temporarily reassigned to the PRO-NIR headquarters, marking a new chapter in his professional journey within the Philippine National Police.

Implications for Bacolod's Law Enforcement

This leadership transition underscores the ongoing efforts to strengthen police operations in Bacolod City. With Rebadomia's local expertise and Coronica's legacy of service, the change aims to maintain continuity while introducing fresh perspectives to address public safety challenges. The community watches closely as this shift promises to shape the future of policing in the region.
