Bureau of Immigration Apprehends Undocumented Korean National in Angeles City
The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has made a significant arrest in Angeles City, detaining a South Korean national for violations of immigration laws. The operation, which took place on Sunday, targeted an individual found to be both undocumented and overstaying his authorized period in the Philippines.
Details of the Arrest and Suspect Identification
The agency identified the suspect as Park Soonho, a 43-year-old South Korean national. On March 18, 2016, BI operatives conducted surveillance in the vicinity of Argentina Street in Barangay Pampang, Angeles City. During the operation, Park was observed outside his residence while receiving a delivery, prompting authorities to approach him.
When confronted, Park voluntarily confirmed his identity to the BI agents. However, he failed to present a valid passport and Alien Certificate of Registration Identity Card (ACR I-Card), which classified him as an undocumented foreigner. Further investigation by the BI confirmed that Park had exceeded his authorized stay in the country, compounding his immigration violations.
Legal Proceedings and Transportation
Following the arrest, the Korean national was transported to the BI Main Office for booking and documentation procedures. This step is part of standard protocol to process individuals accused of immigration offenses, ensuring proper legal handling and potential deportation actions.
The BI emphasized that such operations are crucial for maintaining national security and upholding immigration regulations. The arrest serves as a reminder of the agency's commitment to enforcing laws against undocumented and overstaying foreigners across the Philippines.
