Cebu Police Rescue 638 Minors in Curfew Crackdown

In a significant law enforcement effort, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) successfully rescued 638 minors during a rigorous week-long operation from February 2 to 8, 2026. This initiative was part of the coordinated Oplan Bulabog and Oplan Bakal-Sita campaigns, led by Police Colonel George Ylanan, head of the CCPO, in collaboration with PRO 7 Director Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan.

Strict Curfew Ordinance Enforcement

The operation focused on the strict enforcement of the city's curfew ordinance, which targets minors found wandering the streets late at night until dawn. Authorities emphasized that this measure is crucial for protecting vulnerable youth from potential dangers and ensuring public safety during off-hours.

Following their rescue, the minors were promptly turned over to Barangay Gender and Development (GAD) focal persons and social welfare offices. This step ensures they receive immediate and appropriate interventions, including counseling and support services to address their circumstances and prevent future incidents.

Additional Law Enforcement Achievements

Beyond the minor rescues, the CCPO recorded several other successes during the operation. Police apprehended 11 individuals involved in the illegal drug trade, confiscating 13.11 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P89,148. The suspects now face charges under Section 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Inspections and Citations Issued

As part of the broader crackdown, authorities conducted 2,073 inspections at various business establishments to ensure compliance with city ordinances. The City Environmental Sanitation and Enforcement Team (CESET) issued 21 citation tickets for violations, including public drinking of alcoholic beverages and smoking in prohibited areas. These actions highlight the multi-faceted approach taken to maintain order and public health standards.

Collaboration Key to Success

Police Brigadier General Redrico Maranan underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving these results. He noted that the partnership between local government units and other government agencies has been instrumental in the successful suppression of crime. This cooperative effort not only enhances operational effectiveness but also fosters a safer community environment through shared responsibilities and resources.

The operation demonstrates a proactive stance by Cebu City authorities in addressing both immediate safety concerns and broader social issues. By targeting curfew violations, drug activities, and public ordinance breaches, the CCPO aims to create a more secure and law-abiding urban landscape for all residents.
