Police have identified the suspect as alias Roger, a resident of Barangay Zone 4 in Sta. Cruz municipality. The victims involved in the altercation were alias Arnie and alias Teresa, both subcontractors for an online shopping mall and residents of Buhangin, Davao City. According to initial investigations, the victims had visited the suspect's residence to retrieve equipment, traveling in a Suzuki Hustler and accompanied by a mini-truck.

As the victims were returning home and reached Crossing Tubison in Barangay Astorga, they were allegedly fired upon by the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle and wearing a black jacket.
