As Davao City gears up for the month-long festivities marking its 89th Araw ng Dabaw, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has issued a firm reminder to all Dabawenyos and visitors to uphold the city's renowned "culture of security." This call emphasizes strict adherence to local ordinances that have long been instrumental in maintaining peace and order throughout the region.
Police Spokesperson Highlights Importance of Vigilance
P/Cpt. Hazel Caballero-Tuazon, the spokesperson for DCPO, stressed the critical need for respecting city laws and remaining alert during the Araw ng Dabaw celebrations. In a statement broadcast over Davao City Disaster Radio on February 23, 2026, she addressed the community directly, urging compliance from both locals and guests.
"To our fellow Dabawenyos and visitors to Davao, we kindly request that you always respect the ordinances in place here. It is not an excuse for anyone, whether from Davao or not, to violate our city laws. Our only appeal is that if you have invited guests, please inform them about the regulations we enforce in Davao, as we implement these ordinances strictly," Caballero-Tuazon explained.
Key Ordinances in Focus: Anti-Smoking and Liquor Ban
Two of the most prominent ordinances under scrutiny are the Anti-Smoking Ordinance and the Liquor Ban Ordinance. The Anti-Smoking Ordinance prohibits smoking in all public areas, with penalties escalating for repeat offenses: a fine of P1,000 for the first violation, P2,000 for the second, and P5,000 plus potential imprisonment for the third offense.
Similarly, the Liquor Ban Ordinance restricts the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. daily. Violators face fines of P3,000 for the first offense, P5,000 for the second, and P5,000 along with imprisonment for the third offense, underscoring the city's commitment to public safety.
Enhanced Security Measures for the Celebration
To ensure a secure environment during the Araw ng Dabaw events, a robust security force of 8,500 personnel will be deployed across the city. This comprehensive team includes members from the Davao City Police Office, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO), the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), and Task Force Davao.
The City Government of Davao continues to reinforce the implementation of these ordinances, aiming to protect both residents and visitors as they celebrate the city's rich heritage and diverse culture. By prioritizing strict enforcement, authorities hope to foster a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all participants in the month-long festivities.
