In a significant public apology, a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairperson from Santa Cruz, Laguna has expressed deep regret following the widespread circulation of a viral video on social media platforms. The footage, which captured the official handling displayed food items inside a convenience store without wearing protective gloves, has ignited considerable public discussion and criticism regarding proper conduct and hygiene standards.
Official Identification and Immediate Response
The individual involved has been identified as Mark Adrian Napiza, who serves as the SK chairperson for Barangay Bubukal. In a formal statement released on his personal Facebook account, Napiza openly acknowledged that his actions were inappropriate and unacceptable, particularly given his elected position as a youth leader. He emphasized that his behavior did not align with the responsibilities expected of a public official, even if the incident was intended as a lighthearted joke among friends during video content creation.
Financial Compensation and Deeper Ethical Concerns
Napiza clarified that he had personally paid for all the products he handled on that specific day, ensuring that no financial loss was incurred by the store. However, he recognized that the core issue extended far beyond mere monetary compensation. The SK chairperson articulated a broader understanding of the situation, noting that the controversy primarily revolved around demonstrating proper decorum and the negative public perception generated by the video content. This acknowledgment highlights a mature perspective on the ethical implications of his actions.
Proactive Measures and Institutional Involvement
Demonstrating accountability, Napiza reported that he has taken several corrective steps in response to the incident. He personally contacted the store management to apologize for recording the video without prior permission and for any disruption caused. Furthermore, he confirmed that the controversial video has been permanently removed from all platforms after realizing its potential adverse impact on public trust. The matter has also escalated within official channels, as Napiza received a formal letter from the SK Federation president, and the issue has been formally reported to the local office of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in their municipality.
Acceptance of Responsibility and Future Cooperation
In his statement, Napiza expressed full willingness to cooperate with relevant authorities and accept any disciplinary actions that may be imposed concerning this incident. He firmly stated, "I accept complete responsibility for my mistake," underscoring his commitment to accountability. Reflecting on his role, he added, "I understand that as a youth leader, my actions, whether in personal or official capacities, carry significant responsibility and can affect public confidence." This response indicates a serious approach to rectifying the situation and rebuilding trust within the community.
