Major Drug Bust in Bangsamoro: Four Arrested Including Malaysian National
Law enforcement authorities have successfully conducted a significant anti-drug operation across the Bangsamoro provinces, resulting in the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of approximately P3.5 million worth of illegal substances. The coordinated efforts took place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, targeting suspects in both Tawi-Tawi and Lanao del Sur.
Dual Operations Yield Substantial Results
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-Barmm) led the operations with support from police and military personnel. In Tawi-Tawi, two suspects were apprehended during a buy-bust operation in Suwang Pukol village, Sitangkai. The arrested individuals include a 45-year-old Malaysian national known as alias Utto and his cohort alias Nil, also 45 years old.
Authorities confiscated substantial evidence from the Tawi-Tawi operation:
- Approximately 500 grams of shabu valued at P3.4 million
- One Bul Impact pistol
- One Springfield M1 Garand rifle with ammunition
- Two mobile phones
- Buy-bust money
- Identification documents
The suspects are currently detained and will face charges for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Lanao del Sur Checkpoint Operation Nets Additional Suspects
Simultaneously, in Lanao del Sur, police arrested two additional suspects during a checkpoint operation along the national highway of Talub village, Tamparan. Police Colonel Caezar Cabuhat, Lanao del Sur police director, reported that the suspects attempted to evade authorities by accelerating their vehicle and striking a police checkpoint signage when flagged down.
"When flagged down, the driver refused to stop and instead accelerated, hitting a police checkpoint signage, which prompted their immediate arrest," Cabuhat stated in his official report.
Upon apprehension and body search, authorities discovered drug-related evidence in the suspects' possession:
- Approximately 17.48 grams of shabu worth P118,864
- Illegal drug paraphernalia
- Non-drug evidence
Strengthened Security Measures
Police Colonel Cabuhat emphasized the importance of intensified checkpoint operations in preventing the transportation of illegal drugs. "This successful apprehension highlights the importance of intensified checkpoint operations in preventing the transport of illegal drugs," he affirmed. The police director further committed to continuing strengthened efforts to ensure community safety and security across the region.
The combined operations demonstrate ongoing law enforcement coordination in the Bangsamoro region, targeting both local and international drug trafficking networks. Authorities have not released the identities of the two suspects arrested in Lanao del Sur, maintaining operational security protocols while investigations continue.
