Led by Councilor Jun Arcilla Jr. and Barangay President Dante Borbajo, Resolution 380-2026 mandates strict monitoring of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and gasoline sellers across Mandaue City. The resolution directs the Mandaue City Police and the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO) to conduct thorough inspections of fuel prices and distribution methods. This initiative is designed to ensure that businesses adhere to regulations and do not engage in deceptive practices that harm consumers.
Addressing Illegal Practices in the Fuel Market
Councilor Arcilla highlighted that while global fuel prices are rising due to tensions in the Middle East, the City must prevent local sellers from exacerbating the situation. Officials are specifically targeting two illegal activities: hoarding, where sellers conceal supplies to sell later at higher prices, and price manipulation, which involves selling older stock at inflated rates for unfair profits. "Our goal is to monitor the situation closely so that we can immediately address the concerns of our constituents," Arcilla stated, emphasizing the commitment to transparency.
Enhanced Inspections and Enforcement Measures
Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano confirmed that the City is collaborating with the Department of Energy to track costs effectively. Inspections will extend beyond gas stations to include large warehouses where fuel is stored, ensuring comprehensive oversight. The mayor warned that some businesses might attempt to delay stock releases in anticipation of price hikes.
