Palace Downplays Disappointment Over House Dismissal of Impeachment Complaints Against Marcos

Malacañang has firmly stated that there should be no disappointment following the decisive action by the House of Representatives to dismiss impeachment complaints targeting President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. This position was underscored by Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro, who highlighted the clear outcome of the congressional vote.

Overwhelming Vote Reflects Lack of Merit

According to Castro, the results from the House chamber were unequivocal, with 284 lawmakers voting in favor of dismissing the complaints, compared to only eight who opposed. "Who is disappointed?" Castro questioned, noting that based on her knowledge, merely eight legislators voted against the dismissal. She emphasized that the complaints failed due to a "lack of substance" and should not be exploited as a "fishing expedition."

Broad Consensus Against Complaints

Castro further argued that it was not just the majority of House members who found the allegations baseless, but also several legal experts and constitutionalists who pointed out the complaints' insufficient foundation. "The truth has come out," she remarked, adding a message to those who might be disheartened: "Sorry nalang." This follows the House's earlier endorsement of the Committee on Justice's recommendation to discard the impeachment complaints on grounds of insufficiency in substance.

The Palace's stance reinforces the view that the impeachment process was properly handled, with the overwhelming vote serving as a testament to the complaints' shortcomings. This development underscores the political stability surrounding the Marcos administration, as the legislative branch moves forward without pursuing further action against the president.
