The operation, which took place on Thursday, March 19, 2026, in Sarmiento village, Parang, Maguindanao del Norte, marks a critical victory in the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes in the region.
Details of the Arrest and Seizure
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-Barmm) confirmed the arrest on Friday, March 20, 2026. The suspect, identified only by his alias "Charlie," is a 49-year-old individual who has been on the RTL, indicating his high-priority status in anti-drug efforts.
According to PDEA-Barmm officials, Charlie was captured during an intelligence-driven buy-bust operation. This meticulously planned sting led to the confiscation of approximately 26 grams of suspected shabu, packaged in 16 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets. The seized narcotics are valued at P176,800, underscoring the substantial impact of this operation on the local drug trade.
Evidence and Custody
In addition to the illegal drugs, law enforcement agents recovered several items believed to be linked to Charlie's illicit activities. These include buy-bust money, one identification card, and a mobile phone suspected of being used in drug transactions. The comprehensive nature of the seizure provides crucial evidence for the upcoming legal proceedings.
Charlie is currently detained at the PDEA-Barmm Jail Facility, where he is being held in preparation for the filing of formal charges. The charges will allege violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, a stringent law designed to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the Philippines.
Collaborative Law Enforcement Effort
The successful operation was a result of coordinated efforts between multiple agencies. It was led by the PDEA Maguindanao del Norte Provincial Office and the Regional Special Enforcement Team (RSET), with vital support from the police provincial intelligence team of the Maguindanao del Norte Police Provincial Office. This collaboration highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in addressing complex criminal networks.
This arrest not only disrupts the operations of a key drug personality but also sends a strong message about the commitment of Philippine authorities to eradicating illegal drug activities. The PDEA continues to urge the public to report any suspicious activities, reinforcing the community's role in maintaining safety and order.
