Two Mothers Apprehended in Alegria for Illegal Numbers Game Operation

In a decisive move against illicit activities, law enforcement authorities in Alegria disrupted a gambling operation by arresting two mothers who were allegedly conducting an illegal numbers game, commonly referred to as "swertres." The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Barangay Poblacion, Alegria City, marking a significant step in the intensified campaign against illegal gambling spearheaded by Police Major Jay Palcon, the chief of the Alegria Police Station.

First Arrest Details and Evidence Seizure

At approximately 7:30 PM, police officers apprehended a suspect identified by the alias Hannelet, a 37-year-old married resident of Barangay Montepeller, Alegria. Authorities caught the suspect in the act of issuing number combinations to a customer, who was acting as an undercover poseur buyer. When requested to produce documentation from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to legitimize the gambling activity, Hannelet failed to present any valid permits, leading to immediate handcuffing. During the operation, law enforcement confiscated various gambling paraphernalia and cash stakes from the suspect, solidifying the case with tangible evidence.

Second Apprehension and Similar Charges

Just thirty minutes later, at around 8:00 PM, another mother was arrested in the same barangay. This suspect, known by the alias Yole, is a 47-year-old married resident of Barangay Tolosa, Malabuyoc City. Similar to the first arrest, Yole was discovered actively facilitating the illegal swertres game, with police seizing additional evidence from the scene. Both suspects are currently detained and facing legal proceedings, with charges filed under Republic Act 9287, which penalizes illegal numbers games, highlighting the serious consequences of such unlawful activities.

This operation underscores the ongoing efforts by local police to combat illegal gambling, emphasizing community safety and adherence to legal standards in Alegria.
