Progressive Groups Voice Discontent Over ICI Flood Control Investigation Results

Several progressive organizations have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the outcomes of an investigation conducted by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure into corruption allegations surrounding flood control projects. As the commission concludes its operations, these groups from various sectors feel that the actions taken to hold all involved parties accountable are insufficient and inadequate.

Criticism from Key Figures

According to Teddy Casiño, Chairperson of the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, they are not content or satisfied with the investigations carried out by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, the Office of the Ombudsman, and the Senate regarding the anomalous projects. In response, they have filed a complaint against specific individuals allegedly connected to the corruption issue, including former Undersecretary Adrian Bersamin and former Department of Education Undersecretary Trygve Olaivar, as part of their call for accountability.

Despite submitting this complaint, the groups continue to urge the Office of the Ombudsman to take proactive measures to ensure those implicated in the corruption are held responsible. David San Juan of Kilusang Bayan Kontra Kurakot highlighted that the investigation by the Independent Commission for Infrastructure was limited in scope. He argued that it failed to fully identify the true mastermind or big fish behind the corruption, and did not lead to the imprisonment of high-ranking officials, including those potentially linked to Malacañang Palace.

Calls for Deeper Scrutiny

San Juan emphasized the need for a more thorough and in-depth investigation to uncover the mastermind responsible for the corruption that has plagued the nation. While the groups have entrusted the Office of the Ombudsman with taking action on the filed complaint, they maintain trust in the office's mandate to fulfill its duties and responsibilities effectively. The overall sentiment reflects a broader demand for transparency and justice in addressing infrastructure-related corruption issues.
