No crime reports vs students since classes started in Cebu City

More than a week after classes started in public schools in Cebu City, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has not received any report of a student falling victim to any crime.

Peaceful School Environment

Police Lieutenant Colonel Franco Rodulf Oriol, Deputy City Director for Administration of the CCPO, stated that the situation in 57 large and small schools in the city remains orderly and peaceful.

Operations of the Police Assistance Desks stationed inside and outside schools continue. Police personnel are assigned to monitor and assist students, parents, and teachers who may encounter problems.

One of their priorities is guiding students in crossing the street to avoid vehicular accidents, with the help of traffic personnel from the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).

Traffic Concerns and Police Deployment

The police are also preparing for possible worsening of traffic congestion when classes in private schools and colleges begin. For this reason, Oriol said police personnel cannot yet leave the areas outside schools.

Aside from the police deployed in schools, members of the Mobile Patrol Unit and Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit are also roving the streets to respond quickly in case any crime occurs.

He added that elevated police outposts placed along major roads in the city, including areas near schools, remain operational. These help monitor and prevent crimes against children. Oriol explained that personnel are tasked to rove within a 100-meter radius from their posts.
