DCNHS and DMMES Triumph as Overall Champions in 2026 Digos City Athletic Association Meet

The 2026 Digos City Athletic Association (Dicaa) Meet concluded over the weekend, with Digos City National High School (DCNHS) and Don Mariano Marcos Elementary School (DMMES) securing the overall titles in their respective divisions. The event, which brought together student-athletes from public and private schools across Digos City, showcased impressive performances and highlighted the city's commitment to grassroots sports development.

Secondary Division Dominance by DCNHS

In the secondary division, DCNHS demonstrated remarkable dominance by topping the standings with a commanding medal haul. The school amassed 82 gold, 72 silver, and 50 bronze medals, establishing a clear lead over its competitors. Cor Jesu College Inc. finished as the runner-up, earning 49 gold, 30 silver, and 10 bronze medals, while Kapatagan National High School placed third with 32 gold, 18 silver, and four bronze medals.

Matti National High School secured fourth place with nine gold, 18 silver, and 15 bronze medals, and Digos City Senior High School rounded out the top five with six gold and two silver medals. The competition was fierce, with numerous other public and private schools reaching the podium across various events, underscoring the depth and talent present in the city's athletic programs.

Elementary Division Victory for DMMES

In the elementary division, DMMES emerged as the overall champion after an outstanding performance. The school collected 38 gold, 18 silver, and 14 bronze medals, showcasing the skill and dedication of its young athletes. Isaac Abalayan Elementary School placed second with 15 gold, 17 silver, and eight bronze medals, and Arcaflor Maniapao Elementary School settled for third with 14 gold medals.

Education officials praised the preparation and discipline of the student-athletes, attributing their success to rigorous training and supportive coaching. Beverly S. Daugdaug, Ed.D., chief of the Curriculum Implementation Division, emphasized the crucial role of teachers and coaches in shaping young competitors. She stated, "Pag may target, may gagawin (When you have a goal, you take action). We have lots of things to prepare. Strengthen ourselves, improve ourselves. We teachers and coaches are the instruments for our athletes to win." Her remarks were shared via the DepEd Digos City Facebook page on February 1, 2026.

Theme and Future Prospects

The 2026 Dicaa Meet was held under the theme "Atletang Digoseño: Mahusay. Matatag." which translates to "Digos Athlete: Skilled. Resilient." This event not only served as a platform for showcasing local talent but also as a proving ground for future regional competitors. Top performers from the meet will advance to the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2026, scheduled from February 23 to 28 in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.
