Hearing-Impaired Runner Owen Roble Secures Double Gold Victory at Division Meet 2026
In an inspiring display of athletic prowess and personal triumph, Owen Roble, a dedicated student from Talisay City National High School, has captured the spotlight by winning two gold medals at the Division Meet 2026. The event, held on February 4 at the Talisay City Oval, saw Roble dominate both the 800-meter and 400-meter sprints, showcasing that determination and discipline can indeed overcome physical challenges.
A Remarkable Performance on the Track
Roble delivered a calm yet powerful performance in the demanding 800-meter and 400-meter events, races that require exceptional speed and stamina. What makes his achievement even more remarkable is that he accomplished this while facing an extra hurdle: Roble has difficulty hearing. Rather than allowing this to hinder his progress, he embraced a strict training regimen and relied on the strong support system around him to propel him to victory.
Running with Purpose and Community Support
For Roble, the victory extends far beyond the medals themselves; it is deeply rooted in the encouragement and backing of his loved ones and community. He attributes his success to the unwavering support from his family, principal, and teammates, who have been instrumental in his journey. In his own words, Roble shared, "Ni dagan ko para sa akong mga migo, kauban, teacher, principal kay ni tan-aw man si sir nako gahapon, magulang ug akong pag-umangkon kay ingon nila dapat ko madaog unya ako gi-daog para malipay sila" (I ran for my friends, teammates, teachers, and principal because Sir watched me yesterday, and also for my older sibling and my nephew because they told me I should win. I won so they would be happy).
Advancing to Higher Levels of Competition
Roble's passion for running and his relentless dedication to practice have not only earned him these prestigious gold medals but have also secured him a spot at the next competitive stage. He is now diligently preparing to represent Talisay City at the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) 2026, where he aims to continue his winning streak and inspire others with his story.
A Powerful Reminder of Overcoming Barriers
Roble's journey serves as a powerful reminder that with enough discipline and the steadfast support of a community, any barrier can be surmounted. His story highlights the importance of inclusivity in sports and the incredible achievements possible when athletes are given the opportunity to shine, regardless of physical limitations. As he moves forward, Roble's success is set to motivate countless individuals, proving that heart and hard work are indeed the most crucial tools for any athlete.
