The TNT Tropang 5G have officially booked their ticket to the semifinals of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup after a decisive 118-109 victory over the Magnolia Chicken Timplados. The quarterfinal clash took place on Saturday night, December 27, 2025, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Oftana and Heading Lead the Offensive Charge
The win was spearheaded by a stellar performance from Calvin Oftana, who caught fire from beyond the arc. Oftana drilled five three-pointers on his way to a game-high 25 points. He also contributed five assists, two rebounds, a steal, and a block while committing only one turnover. Jordan Heading provided crucial support, adding 21 points to the balanced TNT attack.
"Nag-focused kami kung ano ang kaya naming gawin," said Oftana after the game, emphasizing the team's focus on their own execution. He also noted the need for composure against a relentless Magnolia squad, stating, "I also told my teammates... be composed lang. Gagawa ang Magnolia ng paraan (to come back)."
Team Effort Seals the Deal for TNT
Head coach Chot Reyes expressed satisfaction with his team completing the mission. "Like I said the last time out, we came out thinking we need to win two games to get to the Final Four. I am happy to deliver the second part of the transaction tonight," Reyes stated. The team had previously won the first part of their must-win sequence on December 21.
The victory was a collective effort. Kim Aurin, Kelly Williams, Jio Jalalon, Rey Nambatac, and Henry Galinato each chipped in seven points, demonstrating the team's depth. The win makes TNT the second team to advance to the semifinals, joining the defending champion San Miguel Beermen, who defeated NLEX on Christmas Day.
Looking Ahead to the Semifinals
With their quarterfinal task complete, the Tropang 5G now await their opponent for the next round. Their semifinal matchup will be determined by the winner of the do-or-die game between the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters and the Meralco Bolts, scheduled for 7:30 PM on the same evening at the Araneta Coliseum.
For Magnolia, the loss ends their conference run despite strong individual efforts. Zav Lucero top-scored for the team with 22 points, followed by Rome dela Rosa with 19 points and Jerom Lastimosa with 18 points.
