The Gilas Pilipinas Women's 3x3 team added another podium finish for the Philippines at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, securing the silver medal after a hard-fought campaign. The Filipinas fell to host China, 13-21, in the gold medal match on Wednesday at the Sanya Sports Centre Gymnasium.

Facing a towering Chinese squad led by Hengyu Yang's inside presence and Fengyi Sun's sharp shooting, the Gilas belles were on the back foot from the start. Early in the game, the Philippines trailed 5-11 before bruiser Mikka Cacho and 3x3 veteran Kaye Pingol sparked a comeback. Using their speed, Cacho and Pingol attacked the basket, while Tantoy Ferrer and Gabi Bade also found gaps in the Chinese defense. However, Gilas struggled from beyond the arc, unable to find a consistent outside shot.
Bade made things interesting with a converted and-one opportunity that cut the deficit to four points, 12-16, with 3:34 remaining. But China's offensive firepower proved too overwhelming down the stretch.
Coach's Reaction
Head coach Anton Altamirano reflected on the match, saying, "We kind of ran out of gas at the end, but I'm very happy with our performance. We really gave them a battle. Obviously, the height difference was a big factor. But I think if we had enough rest, we could have matched them better. If we had another game against them, I believe the result could be different."
Player Contributions
Cacho led the team with five points, while Ferrer added four. Pingol and Bade contributed two points each. The silver medal is the best finish for the Gilas women since they clinched bronze in 2012.
The women's silver softened the blow of the men's team missing the podium, as they also fell to China with identical scores.
