Balanga City Gives Food Packs to Tricycle Drivers

The City Government of Balanga in Bataan, through its Agriculture Office, has distributed approximately 1,000 ready-to-cook food packs to tricycle drivers. This initiative marks the second rollout of the local government's assistance program under the HapagKalinga Pantry, which aims to support transport workers affected by the recent surge in fuel prices.

Support for Transport Workers

One of the recipients, Maximino Dizon, expressed his gratitude, stating that the assistance helps ease their household expenses. "This is a big help for us because even though it's simple, it reduces our daily expenses and helps our family, especially during these difficult times due to high fuel prices," Dizon said in Filipino.

Additional Rice Distribution

In addition to the food packs, the city government also distributed 200 packs of five-kilogram rice under the national government’s Benteng Bigas program, in partnership with the Department of Agriculture. This program provides affordable rice to residents, further alleviating the financial burden on families.

Mayor's Recognition of Transport Sector

Mayor Raquel Francis Garcia expressed her gratitude to the city’s transport sector, acknowledging the drivers' contributions to community order and discipline. She noted that their cooperation helped Balanga City earn recognition as the third safest city in the Philippines. "It is heartwarming to see the smiles of our tricycle drivers who feel the care and support from the HapagKalinga Pantry and Benteng Bigas Program. Our service, compassion, and cooperation for our fellow citizens continue," Garcia said.

The distribution event underscores the city government's commitment to providing timely assistance to vulnerable sectors, especially during economic challenges caused by rising fuel costs. The HapagKalinga Pantry and Benteng Bigas program are part of broader efforts to ensure food security and support local livelihoods.
