Cebu Province Receives First Polyvalent Antivenom Supply
Cebu Gets First Polyvalent Antivenom for Snakebites

The Cebu provincial government received its first supply of polyvalent antivenom on Friday, July 3, 2026, enhancing emergency care for snakebite victims across the province.

Free Distribution at Four Provincial Hospitals

The antivenom, brand-named Taradoc, will be distributed free of charge starting next week at four Capitol-run facilities: Cebu Provincial Hospitals (CPH) in Balamban, Bogo, Danao, and Carcar.

"Through the leadership of Gov. Pam Baricuatro, we continue to strengthen emergency services so that more Cebuanos can receive the care they need closer to home," said Capitol Health Consultant Elisse Nicole Catalan.

First-Time Stock of Polyvalent Antivenom

This marks the first time provincial hospitals in Cebu have stocked polyvalent antivenom. Unlike monovalent options, which target only one snake species, Taradoc treats bites from the King Cobra, Philippine Cobra, and Samar Cobra.

"Snakebites remain a serious and often underreported public health concern, particularly in rural communities where timely treatment can save lives," added Catalan.

Trained Staff and Referral Network

Personnel at the four provincial hospitals are already trained to assess and manage snakebite cases. Patients brought to smaller district hospitals may be referred through the provincial hospital network.

"This is one more step toward a stronger, more responsive provincial healthcare system where no Cebuano is left behind," said Catalan.

Limited Permits for Storage and Use

Although the antivenom is available across the network, current permits for storage and use are limited to the four main provincial hospitals. Each facility must obtain its own permit before administering the antivenom.

Catalan thanked Second District Board Member Stanley Caminero for leading the procurement and pushing for the stock to enter Capitol-run hospitals.
