Butong Festival 2026 Grand Champions
Tribu Maabi-abihon of Barangay Caw-oy emerged as the Grand Champion in both the Ritual Showdown and Street Dancing categories at the Butong Festival 2026, held on June 27, 2026, in Barangay Sabang, Olango Island. The festival honored the fresh butong (young coconut), a source of livelihood and a symbol of pride for the community.
Ritual Showdown Results
In the Ritual Showdown, Tribu Maabi-abihon secured first place, followed by Hugpong Bulawanong Bunga sa Gugma of Barangay Sabang as 1st Runner-Up, and Tribu San Vicentehanon as 2nd Runner-Up. Special awards included Best in Costume, Best in AVP, and Best in Andas, all won by Tribu Maabi-abihon. Best in Musicality went to Hugpong Bulawanong Bunga sa Gugma.
Street Dancing Winners
Tribu Maabi-abihon also dominated the Street Dancing competition, taking the Grand Champion title. Tribu San Vicentehanon placed 1st Runner-Up, and Hugpong Bulawanong Bunga sa Gugma was 2nd Runner-Up.
Festival Queen 2026
Jenila Agusto was crowned Festival Queen 2026, with Jane Mary Ngujo as 1st Runner-Up and Marry Rose Inoc as 2nd Runner-Up. Agusto also won Miss Photogenic and Best in Festival Queen Costume. Ngujo received Best in Production Number and Best in Solo Performance (tied with another contestant). Reinrose Rongcale won the Miss Social Media Award.
Community and Government Support
The festival was supported by the City Government of Lapu-Lapu under Mayor Cindi King-Chan, aiming to preserve local culture, promote tourism, and strengthen Oponganon identity. Colorful butong-inspired costumes and energetic street dancing showcased the culture, talent, and unity of Barangay Sabang residents.
