Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) is now ready to display its world-class facilities as it intensifies preparations for the upcoming ASEAN Summit. Airport officials are proudly highlighting a series of enhancements, including upgraded lounges, improved airside markings, and expanded aircraft parking areas to accommodate visiting leaders and delegates.
Media Tour Reveals Progress
During a media tour held on Monday, April 20, 2026, ongoing work was showcased at the Terminal 2 VIP Lounge and the newly refurbished General Aviation Terminal Building, which involved a P30 million investment. These upgrades are part of the comprehensive preparations for ASEAN 2026, ensuring the airport meets international standards for hosting high-profile events.
CEO Confirms Timely Completion
Julius Neri Jr., CEO and General Manager of the MCIA Authority, confirmed that major preparations have been completed. He emphasized that only finishing touches remain, such as the installation of furniture and appliances. "So far we are on time, we still have about two weeks, everything has been programmed. So, hopefully all our suppliers will be able to deliver," Neri stated, expressing confidence in meeting the deadline.
ASEAN Summit Details
Cebu is set to host the 48th ASEAN Leaders' Summit from May 5 to 9, 2026, where thousands of delegates and heads of state are expected to attend. This event underscores the region's commitment to diplomatic engagement and economic cooperation, with the airport playing a pivotal role in facilitating smooth arrivals and departures.
