223 ALS Learners Graduate in Sulu, 33 Under Army Patrol

A total of 223 learners from the Alternative Learning System (ALS) successfully graduated on July 4, 2026, in Sulu after passing the assessment and equivalency test administered by the Department of Education (DepEd). The graduation and completion rites were held at the DepEd building in San Raymundo village, Jolo, the capital town of Sulu.

Army Literacy Patrol Supports 33 Graduates

Among the graduates, 33 ALS learners were supported under the Army Literacy Patrol (ALPS) of the 21st Infantry Battalion (21IB), which operates under the 1102nd Infantry Brigade. The 21IB reported that of these 33 learners, 14 hailed from Panamao town, 13 from Panglima Estino, and six from Kalingalan Caluang.

Top Scorer Recognized

The 21IB highlighted that Miss Dormie Lim of Punay village, Panglima Estino, achieved the highest score of 94 in the assessment. Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Borras, commander of the 21IB, remarked during the program that it is never too late to pursue dreams, and that anyone with determination can learn and succeed.

Education as a Tool for Peace

Borras stated that the success of every ALS graduate proves that age, poverty, or challenges are not obstacles to achieving one's dreams. He emphasized that through education and collective effort, they continue to promote long-term peace and community development in the battalion's area of operations. Representatives from various government agencies and education partners also attended the graduation rites.
