A businessman was injured after being shot by a loiterer he had confronted, and the suspect was arrested through hot pursuit at around 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, in Barangay Sta. Cruz, Liloan, Cebu.
The arrested suspect was identified as Ramil Longakit, 43, single, a resident of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Liloan.
According to Police Executive Master Sgt. Eutiquio Prosia Jr., investigator of the Liloan Police Station, the suspect allegedly shot businessman Neptale Cardoza, of legal age, at around 6:50 PM on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Purok Tambis, Barangay Lataban, Liloan.
Initial investigation revealed that the victim was waiting for his ordered barbecue when the suspect suddenly shot him. The motive for the crime is believed to be Longakit's resentment toward Cardoza.
It was learned that the suspect had asked for 20 sacks of lime from the victim, who is a hollow block businessman, and explained that they would be used for their chapel. Because of this, the victim did not charge him.
However, the victim discovered that the suspect had actually sold the lime, so he confronted and scolded him. This led to an argument on May 13, 2026, and the suspect threatened to kill the victim, according to PEMS Prosia.
On the day of the incident, while the victim was buying barbecue, the suspect allegedly approached him wearing a bonnet, a jacket, and a black helmet while riding a motorcycle, and then shot him.
Because the area was well-lit, there were witnesses who recognized the suspect.
While the victim was being treated at the hospital, he positively identified Longakit as the one who shot him.
However, when Longakit was arrested, he vehemently denied the accusation.
The police are preparing a frustrated murder case against the suspect.
