A fire broke out in Sitio Baca, Barangay Apas, Cebu City at 9:58 a.m. on Monday, April 27, 2026, completely destroying three houses. The Cebu City Fire Station received the alarm at 9:58 a.m., and firefighters arrived within nine minutes. The fire was raised to first alarm but was declared under control at 10:07 a.m. and fully extinguished by 10:39 a.m.
The fire started at the house of Nelia Prado and quickly spread to neighboring homes. A total of eight families, comprising 60 individuals, were affected. No injuries were reported.
Senior Fire Officer 3 Wendell Villanueva, spokesperson for the Cebu City Fire Station, said investigators are looking into faulty wiring as a possible cause but have not ruled out other possibilities as the investigation continues. “The fire arson investigation team is considering the electrical angle, but other possible causes are also being looked into since it is still under investigation,” Villanueva said.
Meanwhile, another fire struck a house in Hidden View Subdivision, Barangay Bacayan, Cebu City at 2:42 p.m. The house, owned by Roy Cabunilas, was damaged. According to reports, sparks from welding ignited the fire. Cabunilas’ daughter said someone was welding in their house, and a spark landed on wood, causing it to ignite. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze by 3:22 p.m.
