Drunk Korean Driver Crashes into Flyover Railings in Cebu City

A 34-year-old Korean national, identified only by the alias 'Hyun,' crashed his Toyota Fortuner into eight railings on the flyover in Barangay Banilad, Cebu City, early Saturday, June 27, 2026, at around 4:00 AM. According to the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU), the incident occurred due to extreme intoxication, causing him to lose control of his vehicle.

Hyun, a temporary resident of Mandaue City, had just come from a club with his stepson and was heading home to Mandaue. Authorities reported that the Fortuner was speeding and swerving erratically before hitting the railings.

Motorcyclist Injured in Chain Reaction

The sudden crash caused a following motorcyclist to lose balance after hitting the fallen railings, resulting in scraped knees. The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

When TEU officers arrived at the scene, Hyun was acting aggressively and insisted on going home. He attempted to drive away but was immediately stopped by personnel from the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO).

Attempted Escape and False Theft Claim

In addition to attempting to flee, Hyun falsely accused the responding police of stealing his money, claiming he had PHP 200,000. However, a search revealed he was not carrying that amount. Authorities determined this was a ploy to divert attention.

Because Hyun refused to cooperate and continued to resist, police were forced to bring him to the TEU office for proper disposition and filing of charges. He faces complaints for reckless driving, damage to property, and possible resistance to authority.
