Cebu 'Superman' Motorcyclist Faces Charges After Viral Stunt on Transcentral Highway

The Highway Patrol Group in Central Visayas (HPG 7) is preparing to file a case of alarm and scandal against a man who went viral for posing as "Superman" while riding his motorcycle on the Transcentral Highway (TCH) on February 15, 2026. The incident, captured in photos and videos that spread rapidly across social media platforms, has prompted a significant law enforcement response due to the severe risks it posed to public safety.

Dangerous Actions Spark Police Intervention

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Wildemar Tiu, chief of HPG 7, the man's reckless behavior endangered other motorists who were driving properly on the busy highway. Tiu emphasized that the situation could have escalated into a serious accident when the man reportedly collided with another motorcycle that was recording his stunt. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the collision, but the potential for harm was substantial.

"We will file a case so that people will think twice before showing off on the TCH," Tiu stated, underscoring the need for deterrence against such dangerous antics. The man has been identified as Kylle Econas, a 21-year-old resident of Barangay Poblacion Occidental in Consolacion, Cebu. He has already been summoned by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for further investigation into his actions.

Broader Crackdown on Reckless Driving and Drag Racing

In response to this incident and ongoing concerns, Tiu revealed plans to deploy HPG personnel to key areas along the Transcentral Highway, particularly at Red Cliff in Barangay Cantipla, a mountainous region of Cebu City that attracts gatherings of riders every weekend. The operation will involve coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Cebu City Mobile Force Company, the Cebu City Police Office, and the Balamban Municipal Police Station under the Cebu Police Provincial Office, to establish checkpoints and monitor activities.

The primary objectives of this enhanced enforcement effort are to prevent drag racing on the TCH and avert further accidents, especially those involving intoxicated drivers. Tiu highlighted that gambling is closely linked to these drag races, with participants often engaging in betting on the outcomes. "The ones who trigger these drag races are often involved in betting, as far as I know," he added, noting that these events typically involve motorcycles racing at high speeds while performing stunts, creating a hazardous environment for all road users.

Apology and Admission of Wrongdoing

Econas has publicly apologized to both LTO 7 and HPG, admitting that his actions were wrong and acknowledging the potential harm he could have caused to other motorists. "I am asking for forgiveness, sir. I'm asking for another chance because I will not repeat this. I sincerely apologize, and I hope you give me a chance to not repeat this," he said, expressing remorse for his behavior. He assured authorities that he will no longer drive his motorcycle in such a dangerous manner.

In a startling revelation, Econas admitted that he obtained his driver's license through illicit means, purchasing it from a fixer for over P12,000 without attending the required seminar or driving school. He did not disclose the identity of the person who processed the license but stated that he is prepared to accept any penalties imposed by the LTO, recognizing that his actions were improper. This admission raises concerns about licensing integrity and underscores the broader issues of road safety and regulatory compliance in the region.
