Cordova Mayor Summons Teen Riders for Dangerous 'Superman' Stunts on Discipline Zone
Four teenage motorcycle riders who performed dangerous 'Superman' stunts while racing along Centennial Avenue in Cordova have publicly apologized at the office of Mayor Cesar 'Didoy' Suan. The incident occurred in what is designated as a discipline zone within the municipality, highlighting serious traffic safety concerns.
Mayor's Office Confronts Reckless Behavior
Mayor Suan called the young riders, along with their parents and the motorcycle owners, to listen to their explanations on Sunday, February 22, 2026. This meeting followed the viral spread of a video showing the teens engaging in perilous maneuvers without wearing helmets, sparking widespread public outrage and concern for road safety.
The teenagers, all residents of Cordova, include one 18-year-old, two 16-year-olds, and one 15-year-old. In a video posted on the official Facebook page of Cordova, most parents or guardians claimed they were unaware that the minors were operating motorcycles, with one parent admitting to allowing their child to ride to school without a license.
Consequences and Public Apologies
The parents now face significant consequences, including the potential confiscation of their licenses. They have joined their children in offering public apologies and have pledged to securely keep motorcycle keys to prevent future incidents. The four teens have also promised not to repeat their reckless actions, acknowledging the danger they posed to themselves and others.
Mayor Suan issued a stern warning: if such violations recur, the offenders will not only be summoned to the Mayor's Office but will also face penalties from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in accordance with the severity of their infractions. He emphasized that this serves as a final opportunity for public apology within his jurisdiction.
Increased Enforcement Measures
To curb further violations, Mayor Suan announced the deployment of additional checkpoints on major roads in Cordova. These measures aim to apprehend traffic violators and reinforce the municipality's commitment to road safety. The mayor addressed all residents, stating, 'This should be a lesson for all of us. I clarify that for reckless drivers—whether from Cordova or not—operating within my jurisdiction, this is the last time they will face the Mayor's Office to ask for forgiveness and a public apology.'
He further explained that their actions constitute a violation under Section 48 for reckless driving, with potential implications for their eligibility to obtain a driver's license under Republic Act 4136. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges in enforcing traffic laws and promoting responsible behavior among young riders in the community.
