Details of the Fatal Collision

The victims have been identified as Jerly Colongon Cagoyong, 33, and Jenifer Luza Damonsong, 50, both residents of Banilad, Mandaue City. According to initial investigations by the Catmon Municipal Police Station, the two were riding a motorcycle driven by Cagoyong, heading south on the highway.

As the motorcycle attempted to overtake, it encountered an oncoming vehicle, forcing it to swerve back into its lane. At that moment, a prime mover driven by Mark Absalon from Sagay City, Negros Occidental, struck the motorcycle from behind. The impact caused the motorcycle to crash, and both women were run over by the prime mover's wheels.

Immediate Aftermath and Apprehension

Rescue personnel quickly responded to the scene, but the victims were pronounced dead on arrival at Sogod District Hospital in Barangay Damolog, Sogod. Meanwhile, Absalon, the prime mover driver, failed to stop and fled the scene, prompting authorities to issue an alert.

The Carmen Municipal Police Station was notified and swiftly established a checkpoint, successfully intercepting the prime mover. Absalon was subsequently turned over to the Catmon Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.

Legal Charges Filed

Authorities have prepared charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Double Homicide against Absalon. This case underscores the severe consequences of negligent driving and the importance of adherence to traffic laws to prevent such devastating accidents.

The community mourns the loss of Cagoyong and Damonsong, as this incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by motorcycle riders on busy highways. Investigations are ongoing to determine any additional factors contributing to the crash.
