Talisay Waiter Faces Charges After Drunk Driving Incident

A 20-year-old waiter was apprehended after testing positive for alcohol consumption during a breathalyzer test conducted by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) 7. This followed his involvement in a road accident that occurred on Monday morning, February 16, 2026, in Talisay City.

Details of the Morning Collision

According to the City of Talisay Traffic Operations and Development Authority (CT-Toda), the suspect was operating his motorcycle along N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Lawaan 1 at approximately 7:00 a.m. Reports indicate that he attempted to overtake a passenger bus but instead collided with a cyclist.

The impact of the crash was severe enough to eject the motorcycle's passenger. The bus subsequently ran over the passenger's leg, necessitating immediate medical attention at a nearby hospital. Fortunately, the cyclist sustained only minor injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.

Official Confirmation of Alcohol Influence

Atty. Vince Santiago, Head of Operations at CT-Toda, disclosed that the driver was subjected to a breath analyzer test by LTO 7 personnel. The results confirmed the presence of alcohol in his system, linking the accident to impaired driving.

In a statement to CT-Toda head Jonathan Tumulak, the suspect admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages prior to the incident. This confession, combined with the positive test, has led to his arrest and potential legal consequences under local traffic laws.

Implications for Road Safety

This case underscores ongoing concerns about drunk driving in urban areas like Talisay. Authorities emphasize the dangers of operating vehicles under the influence, which can lead to serious injuries or fatalities. The incident serves as a stark reminder for motorists to adhere to sobriety laws to ensure public safety on the roads.
