Massive Police Deployment Ensures Safety in Eastern Visayas for Holy Week and Summer Season

In a significant security operation, over 3,000 police personnel have been strategically deployed across Eastern Visayas to safeguard the region during the Holy Week observance and the upcoming summer vacation period. This large-scale initiative aims to manage crowds, prevent incidents, and maintain public safety through coordinated efforts.

Comprehensive Security Strategy Announced

Brigadier General Jason Capoy, the regional director, announced the deployment on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, emphasizing the readiness of law enforcement to handle the anticipated influx of people. "With over 3,000 personnel deployed, we are prepared to manage crowds, prevent incidents, and ensure public safety across the region through coordinated and strategic operations," Capoy stated. The police officers will be stationed at key locations including places of worship, major thoroughfares, transportation hubs, terminals, commercial areas, and other convergence points.

Enhanced Coordination with Multiple Agencies

The police force is being augmented by units from various law enforcement agencies and advocacy groups to bolster security measures. Augmentation units include personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and other uniformed services. Additionally, non-government volunteers such as Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs), local government unit (LGU) traffic enforcers, security guards, the Red Cross, Rotary Club, fraternities and sororities, and radio communication groups are participating in the effort.

Anticipated Crowds During Holiday Period

From April to May, Eastern Visayas is expected to experience a surge in visitors as families, tourists, and travelers take advantage of the holiday period to visit destinations, participate in local festivities, and engage in leisure activities. This increased movement of people across the region necessitates robust security measures to prevent disruptions and ensure a peaceful environment.

Alignment with National Police Directives

In a statement to the media, Capoy highlighted that this initiative aligns with the directive of the Chief of the Philippine National Police, General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., to enhance police operations through strategic planning, strengthened coordination, and effective use of personnel and resources. "Police Regional Office 8 remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors in Eastern Visayas during the summer season," he added, reinforcing the commitment to public safety and order.

The deployment underscores a proactive approach to security, leveraging both government and civilian resources to create a safe and secure environment for all during this busy period.
