Comelec Adjusts Overseas Voter Registration Schedule Amid Compressed Work Week
Comelec Adjusts Overseas Voter Registration Schedule

The Commission on Elections Office for Overseas Voting has issued an important advisory regarding registration schedules for overseas voters, aligning with the compressed work week adopted by most government agencies. This move aims to streamline the process for Filipinos seeking to participate in the upcoming May 2028 national elections.

Adherence to Local Field Registration Centers Schedules

In a recent social media announcement, the Comelec-Ofov emphasized that interested applicants should be aware of the weekly operating schedules implemented by various agencies serving as Local Field Registration Centers throughout the remainder of April 2026. The office specifically recommended that those wishing to register while still in the Philippines visit these centers according to their designated operating days.

Specific Agency Operating Days

The advisory provided detailed information about different agencies' schedules:

  • Philippine Red Cross - Manila Chapter in Manila City, Department of Migrant Workers in Mandaluyong City, and BDO - UN Avenue in Manila City are open from Tuesdays to Fridays.

Significant Registration Milestone Achieved

On Tuesday, the Comelec-Ofov announced a substantial achievement in the overseas voter registration process. The Resident Election Registration Board in the Philippines approved more than 2,000 applications submitted through various Local Field Registration Centers across the country.

The RERB approved a total of 2,358 applications covering registration, certification, reactivation, correction of entries, change of address, recapture, transfer, and multiple applications filed between December 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026, stated the Comelec-Ofov in their official announcement.

Registration Hearing Details

The approval hearing took place at the Ofov Conference Room within the Comelec's main office in Intramuros, Manila. This procedural step represents a crucial phase in validating overseas voter applications and ensuring their eligibility for the 2028 elections.

Extended Registration Period

It's important to note that the overseas voter registration period commenced on December 1, 2025 and will continue through September 30, 2027. This extensive timeframe allows Filipinos abroad to register at all Philippine embassies, consulates, designated posts overseas, and Local Field Registration Centers within the Philippines.

The Comelec's adjustments to registration schedules demonstrate their commitment to accommodating government-wide operational changes while maintaining accessibility for overseas voters. With the compressed work week becoming standard across agencies, these coordinated efforts ensure that registration processes remain efficient and responsive to applicants' needs during this critical pre-election period.
