Comelec Plans Voter Registration Resumption in February 2027 for 2028 Polls
Comelec Eyes Feb 2027 Voter Registration Resumption

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that individuals who failed to register as voters will have another opportunity starting February 2027. In an interview, Comelec Chairman George Garcia stated that the registration period is expected to resume in February 2027, running until September, in time for the May 2028 national and local elections.

"Next year, our registration period will be held for a longer period, probably February to September," Garcia said. The previous voter registration period concluded on May 18, ahead of the November 2026 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE). As of the final day, the Comelec recorded a total of 5,470,889 applications.

Despite this number, several complaints reached the Comelec from individuals who were unable to apply. Thus, the Comelec is urging the public to not wait for the final day of the next registration period. Garcia emphasized that Filipinos should shed the habit of cramming and applying on the last day.

"I hope we don't always wait for the last day. You may be busy working or studying, but I hope you won't do it on the last day, which is the usual behaviour," he said. "We want to accommodate you, but unfortunately, we can't do it anymore," added Garcia.
