In a decisive move to bolster public safety, the Bacolod City Council has issued a direct order to the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) to immediately activate all installed security cameras throughout the city.
The resolution, formally approved during Monday's regular session, emphasizes the urgent need to operationalize these surveillance systems to strengthen the city's crime prevention and emergency response capabilities.
Enhanced Monitoring and Crime Deterrence
Councilor Claudio Jesus "Kalaw" Puentevella, the primary author of the resolution, stressed that activating these cameras will provide the DRRMO with real-time monitoring capabilities across key areas of Bacolod. "These security cameras serve as our eyes on the ground," Puentevella explained. "When operational, they will significantly enhance our ability to monitor public spaces and respond swiftly to emergencies."
The surveillance system is expected to serve multiple critical functions:
- Real-time monitoring of public areas and critical infrastructure
- Enhanced evidence collection for criminal investigations
- Improved traffic management and incident response
- Better coordination during natural disasters and emergencies
Accountability and Transparency
The council's directive also includes provisions for proper maintenance and regular reporting on the camera system's operational status. This ensures that the substantial investment in surveillance technology delivers tangible benefits to Bacolod residents.
Councilor Puentevella emphasized that the activation aligns with the city's broader commitment to public safety and modern governance. "This isn't just about installing equipment—it's about creating a safer environment for our constituents through technology and proactive monitoring," he added.
The DRRMO has been instructed to provide regular updates on the implementation progress, ensuring that the security cameras become fully functional components of Bacolod's public safety infrastructure.
